Make a Speedy Recovery with Zammit Gardens

Many people enjoy having plants and flowers in their homes as they feel they life the mood and provide a sense of well-being. Flowers are also one of the most common gifts we buy for loved ones suffering ill health. Now, Zammit Gardens, the leading Maltese florist and provider of flowers to Gozo points to research proving that flowers actually do aid well-being.

A study by Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey has shown that flowers actually induce positive emotion. In the same way that many plants have evolved as they provide positive benefits to humans, researchers have found that cultivated flowers could be grown as they provide positive emotional effects. For example, the study found that most women who were presented with flowers reported more positive moods when questioned three days later.

Adrian Zammit, from the firm who specialise in same day flowers in Malta, said, “For generations we have believed that the giving of flowers increased well-being in humans and helped support recovery from illness. This study shows that indeed flowers do have a positive immediate and long-term effect on emotional reactions and mood.”

The study also discovered that a flower given to men or women in an elevator elicited more positive social behaviour than other stimuli and that flowers could improve not only the mood but the memory.

Mr Zammit added, “This research underlines what many of us have believed for a while, namely that flowers do make you feel better. It also reinforces other studies which have shown that houseplants can reduce tiredness, sore throats and other cold-related illnesses. When we buy flowers for friends or family who are ill we are not only trying to brighten up their day but also to aid their emotional and physical recovery.”

Dr. Jeannette Haviland-Jones, lead researcher and director of the Human Development Lab at Rutgers concluded that "Happier people live longer, healthier lives and are more open to change. Our research shows that a small dose of nature, like flowers, can do a world of wonder for our well-being as we age."

Now, if you need a surefire way to improve the emotional wellbeing of a loved one, as well as aiding their recovery from illness, Zammit Gardens can help you by providing the perfect Maltese fresh flowers.
